Simona Halep provided us with a nice 18 point win in Doha. She beat three top ten players consecutively in straight sets to take the title. I was not going to bet on her winning Dubai coming off the back of her biggest ever win and allegedly carrying an Achilles problem. However she is in such terrific form that I cannot let her go unsupported even though Serena looms in her half of the draw. I have had a small interest:

In the bottom half I've had the same bet on Venus who won back-to-back titles here in 2009-10 and did not play the tournament again until yesterday's first round win over Vesnina. She looked sharp:
